Chalavadi Narayanaswamy currently serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council. Early Life and Political Beginnings
Born in Gonakanahalli, Hosakote taluk, Narayanaswamy completed his education in Bengaluru, where he also had a background in student activism. His political journey began in 1978 as an ordinary worker with the Indian National Congress (INC), a party with which he was associated for over four decades. During his tenure with the Congress, he gained experience in various capacities, including membership in the Telephone Advisory Committee and the Karnataka State Housing Board.
Shift to BJP and Current Role
After being denied a candidate's ticket by the Congress party for seven consecutive times, Narayanaswamy joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2018. He was subsequently elected as an MLC (Member of Legislative Council) in 2022. Prior to his current role, he was appointed as the President of the State SC Morcha (Scheduled Caste wing of the BJP).
On July 24, 2024, by the order of BJP National President J.P. Nadda, and through a press release issued by Karnataka BJP in-charge Radha Mohan Das Agarwal, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy was officially appointed as the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council.
