Javagal Srinath, born on August 31, 1969, in Mysore, Karnataka, is a former Indian cricketer widely regarded as one of India’s finest fast bowlers. He played for India from 1991 to 2003, known for his pace, often exceeding 150 kmph, and his ability to bowl incutters, inswingers, and reverse swing. He is the only Indian fast bowler to take over 300 wickets in One Day Internationals (ODIs), with 315 wickets, making him India’s second-highest ODI wicket-taker after Anil Kumble. In Tests, he claimed 236 wickets, ranking him among India’s top fast bowlers.

Srinath was born into a Kannada-speaking Brahmin family to J.K. Chandrashekar and Bhagyalakshmi, who passed away on August 16, 2025, due to age-related ailments. Domestic Career: Srinath debuted for Karnataka in the 1989-90 Ranji Trophy, taking a hat-trick against Hyderabad in his first match. He took over 500 first-class wickets, including 96 for Karnataka at an average of 24.06. He also played county cricket for Gloucestershire (1995, taking 87 wickets), Leicestershire, and Durham.
International Career: Srinath debuted in ODIs against Pakistan in 1991 and in Tests against Australia in Brisbane the same year. After Kapil Dev’s retirement in 1994, he led India’s pace attack for nearly a decade. His standout performances include 6/21 against South Africa in 1996 and 8/86 against Pakistan in 1999.
