The primary reasons for these suicides include drought, floods, crop failure, and heavy debt burdens. Crop failure, inability to repay loans, and lack of fair market prices for produce have plunged farmers into financial distress. Between 2023–24 and July 2025–26, 2,422 farmer suicides occurred due to these reasons. This crisis has also severely impacted the mental health of farmers.
